@lobobreed Pointing me to a record doesn’t do me much good if I can’t actually hear the record. I can’t find a single recording of this under a search for Wyatt and Russell but there are pages and pages of the recording under Watts and Russell.

Yeh, I can point you to my own copy of the record. You can also find it out by looking up Caedmon Records and looking over their list of recordings where you can find this recording listed, along with the verification that the interviewer is Woodrow Wyatt. Considering Russell’s distaste for mysticism and anything associated with religion, it’s highly improbable that he would have been interviewed by anyone interested in organized religion.

@lobobreed You may be right but your claim that Russell wouldn’t have been interviewed by anyone who has a different world view than his is laughable.

@lobobreed Can you point me to where you listened to the audio?

This is not Alan Watts. It’s Woodrow Wyatt, former member of Parliament and BBC Commentator. This interview was done in 1962, I think, and was put out by Caedmon Records. Anyone ever listening to Alan Watts would know in a minute this isn’t him. And Russell’s logical positivism would have laughed at Alan Watts’ interest in organized religion. Next time, due your due diligence before you post. — Silverwolf

I miss Alan Watts, he was brilliant as well as cool. Now days, you get brilliant but dorky.

@adrenacrumb well its possible Alan Watts was younger when this was made, and for some reason used an affectation. strangly sounds like william f buckley

No, never seen anything that absolutely confirms it, but there are tons of Watts recordings going around that aren’t listed anywhere and I’ve had no luck finding everyone who has interviewed Russell. I’ve tried searching for content of the interview but not found anything to confirm either way. This was part of an Alan Watts bundle I dl’d and has been labeled as Watts and Russell anywhere I have seen it listed.

This may have taken place after he lost some of his accent and tried faking it for Russell. If it isn’t Watts then it is someone with the exact same pitch and tone of his voice. I would be incredibly shocked if it wasn’t him.

@adrenacrumb well it’s possible. Is there any information confirming this is Alan Watts such as information regarding the recording on any site?
It does sound different for sure.

Have you ever heard an Alan Watts recording before he came to America and still had a completely English accent? I will admit it sounds like he is using a slightly phony accent, but I think he is trying to use a sophisticated English accent since he is interviewing one of the most brilliant people to ever live.

I don’t think the questioner sounds like Alan Watts … this voice has a more nasal upper-class snooty sound haha
listen to the words around 4:54 “years” = yahrs” … “would you sahhhy”
I just have never heard any Alan Watts recording where he sounded like this or said those words in that manner

it clearly is Alan Watts though. i mean, far be it from me to question an american to whom all english accents probably sound the same but that is Alan Watts.

Have you bothered doing a google search? I promise you it is Alan Watts. The name of the interview is ‘Trend of Philosophy’.

That voice wouldn’t have sounded like Watts at any time in his life. I’ve heard recordings of Watts dating to the early 1950s, and that ain’t him. Not even remotely close.
adrenacrumb said on 14-07-2010
Yes I believe it is. He just had a very posh british accent when he was younger and it completely changed when he moved to America.

Adrena, I can GUARANTEE you that that’s not Alan Watts. I’ve listened to hundreds of hours of his tapes, and that doesn’t sound at all like him.
